Food fraud : non compliant olive oil

{Date : 25/08/2022}

During year 2020, DGCCRF conducted sevral tests on olive oil samples. Different properies were analysed like oils quality, conformity of the labels, the mentions and the origin of the oil. In total, 97 samples were taken and 180 establishments were inspected.

Results are not as good as expected :

  • 48% of the 97 samples taken did not comply with what was announced on the label.
  • Nearly 30% of the 180 establishments inspected showed anomalies, such as misleading commercial practices concerning the origin of the oil, as well as product presentations that mislead the consumer.

Thus, measures for the decommissioning of olive oils unsuitable for human consumption have been set and these products will be reused in the non-food industry.
