Analytical approaches

Our authenticity analyses are "tailor-made" for each product, including both conventional and advanced methods, selected to check for likely adulteration practices.

Our authenticity testing toolbox

Non-targeted screening tests

AIMS : to control the global conformity of an ingredient, by comparing its spectral fingerprint to a reference database. These testing indicate adulterations or reveal anomalies in the assayed sample (even emerging fraud !)

Methods Advantages

NMR* Profiling

  • Obtains whole matrices fingerprint
  • Covers a large scope of potential issues
  • Detects counterfeiting, mislabelling or quality deviation
  • Provides a quick response even when a large number of samples has to be analyzed
Chromatography coupled with High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (LC/GC-HRMS)
  • Narrows down the possible chemical formulas of a unknown compound
  • Capable of separating mass fragments at the fifth decimal place (exact mass) where MS/MS instrumentation was limited to single-digit mass unit

*Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

Targeted analyse tests

AIM
:
to focus on known adulteration markers

Methods Advantages
Composition analyses (Wet chemistry and chromatographic methods)
  • Identification & quantification of defined compounds
Stable Isotopes analyses (SNIF-NMR** and IRMS*** methods)
  • Identification of molecules origin
  • Detect adulteration of the main product components
Molecular Biology techniques
  • Identification of species, varieties, etc
Flavour analyses (GC-MS quantitative profile and chiral analysis)
  • Pack specially designed for aroma analysis

** Site-Specific Natural Isotope Fractionation-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

*** Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry
